The Onewhero Golf Club was formed in 1929 at Onewhero and played there until 1933. It then moved to a new course also at Onewhero.
In 1947 the club was on the move again, this time to Pukekawa. This lasted two years and in 1949 another new course was built, also in Pukekawa. Golf was played there until 1961 when it purchased 103 acres again in Pukekawa where it is situated today.
Over the years thousands of trees have been planted and flourished on the rich volcanic soil. Five years ago the club took a big step in redeveloping the back nine holes. This has resulted in three water holes, more hazards, bunkers and out of bounds. Members of the club are very social, sometimes over-social!
Club days are every Tuesday (Ladies), Wednesday (Men) and Saturday (Men and Ladies). Social days are held every month on Sundays, and Twilight golf from 4pm to 6pm during daylight savings on Fridays. Green fee players are most welcome from 11am Saturdays, all day Sundays and during the week. Just ring our shop for a start time. Golf carts are also for hire.
The Onewhero Golf Course can be hard. If you stray off the fairway you will get punished by the trees, water hazards, lateral hazards and out of bounds. Nine greens have bunkers guarding them.
The Mens course is 5503 metres long with a course rating of 69.6, slope 115 and is a Par 72.
The Ladies course is 5205 metres long with a course rating of 70.3, slope 120 and is a Par 73.
